Hours: 37 hours per week
Hybrid Working, onsite likely to be 3 days per week to be agreed with the successful candidate.
Start Date: Early August 2024

This post requires specialist public health leadership and an appropriate span of responsibility to deliver health protection, health improvement and advice on health services. The post holder will also need to ensure that the impact on health is considered in the development and implementation of all policies.

The postholder will prepare, manage and monitor the service’s budget and will ensure effective leadership, motivation and development of staff. On a regular basis they will review resources, services and partnership arrangements in order to identify opportunities to improve service delivery.

To be successful in this role the postholder will need previous high-level management experience in a local authority or health service role. They will need to have an acute understanding of the link between economic success and good health and build this into your strategy for tackling and prioritising public health issues. A good understanding and experience of working on the governments levelling up programme would be essential.

The Interim DPH will be expected to formulate a clear, targeted long-term strategy that ensures health and social care, education, housing, jobs and economic policies and infrastructure, and communities, community assets and the third sector are shaped in ways which deliver maximum improvements in health and wellbeing. They will need excellent decision-making skills and the ability to lead others and inspire positive change.

Key skills & experience:

A high level communication and negotiation skills is required to develop strong working relationships both internally and externally and externally.

The Interim Director of Public Health is required to hold:-

• Inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register / GDC specialist list or UK Public Health Register
• Must meet minimum CPD requirements in accordance with the Faculty of Public Health requirements or other recognised body
• Public health specialty registrar applicants who are not yet on the GMC specialist register/GDC specialist register in dental public health/UKPHR must provide verifiable signed documentary evidence that they are within 6 months of gaining entry at the date of interview; all other applicants must provide verifiable signed documentary evidence that they have applied for inclusion on the GMC/GDC/UKPHR specialist registers.
