Overall purpose:

The development and delivery of new transport infrastructure is vital to the future economic wellbeing of the council.

The project manager has responsibility for driving forward innovative ideas across a programme of schemes. The role is vital in ensuring effective and efficient delivery of schemes across a wide range of transport projects.

The role requires a strong ability to bring together a wide range of stakeholder groups including parish and district councils, resident and campaign groups and businesses, setting delivery outcomes for projects and defining service outcomes across a range of needs – e.g., community engagement, maximising contract savings and achieving value for money.

The role supports the group manager and other managers within the Project Delivery Directorate in delivering the councils objectives, through joined-up service planning, community engagement and the flexible use of resources.

• Must have HNC or equivalent level 4 qualification in project management or civil engineering related discipline.
• Must have at least 5 years’ experience working in highways & transport in a similar role within major maintenance.
• Must have significant project management experience in a client role in a large public sector organisation.
• Must be able to drive and have access to a vehicle for site visits, as well as managing contractors delivering on behalf of others.
• Needs to have considerable experience working for a public sector organisation and communicating proactively with stakeholders.
• Needs to have considerable experience using project management software, either ASTA or MS Project and computer literate across Microsoft software packages.
• Must have considerable experience managing design consultants, packages of work, contractors, NEC contracts and costs to fit within set budgets
